OK. You read the bio. Chris went to college, Chris writes, acts, blah, blah, blah. But who is she? What makes her tick, tickles her funny bone, turns her on? Why does she use so many clichés? And why does she ask so many questions?

Books you'd want if you were in solitary confinement? Catch-22, Little Big Man, The Canterbury Tales

Favorite movie? The Man Who Would be King

Favorite album? What? Just one? No way. It's at least a four-way tie between Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Abbey Road (both by The Beatles), Baptism (Joan Baez) and Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, Vol.2

Any unrealilzed dreams or goals? Well, duh. To travel the world. To meet the remaining Beatles (ditto Willie). To lose twenty pounds. To quit my day job and support myself with my art.

Do you have any social skills? I'm a pretty good dancer (as the photo at right will attest). Swing, polka, waltz, schottische, Argentine tango, country/western, cajun, zydeco, international folk dances, Irish step dancing, the hokey-pokey. I'm terrible at salsa and merengue, though.

Color? Anything bright and bold. Red. Purple. Orange. Green. Blue. All of the above, preferably all next to each other.

Favorite knock-knock joke?
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Philip.
Philip who?
Philip Glass. Knock knock.
Who's there?

Who's there?

Coke or Pepsi? Dr. Pepper

Sign? Pisces

Cats or dogs? Cats. Definitely.

Ocean or mountains? Mountains

Arts or sciences? Arts

Mac or PC? Both

Favorite sin? Gluttony

Know any good, pithy sayings? Here are a few:

Life is too short for delayed gratification (I came up with that one myself)
Sure, I want to simplify my life, but not if it means giving stuff up. (uttered by my friend Paula Kavanaugh, whose honesty I find extremely refreshing)
Sieze the day and throttle it! (Calvin & Hobbes)

Be interest-ED, not interest-ING. (Van Brooks, my first acting teacher. Good advice for getting along not only on stage or in front of the camera, but also in Real Life.)
Are you dead or dangerous? (Dan Fauci, former producer at Paramount and a valued mentor. Meaning are you taking risks?, and if not, then you are dead, dead, dead. These are words I try to live by.)
If you don't break your ropes while you're alive, do you think ghosts will do it after? (Kabir)

Favorite band? For dancing, that would be Brave Combo. For listening, The Beatles. For fantasizing, Willie Nelson. And when I'm feeling nostalgic, it's Bob Dylan.

Favorite composer? My favorite classical composer is Beethoven, with Mahler running a close second. For contemporary music, I'm very fond of Arvo Pärt and Olivier Messiaen (did I spell that right?)

Something no one would have guessed about you? Once a week I play the carillon (bells) in the tower on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin. In fact, here's a short video you can watch.

A few of your favorite things? Moon shadows. Kittens. The amazing sense of connectedness that comes from a good collaboration with another artist. Naps. Dark chocolate. Seeing the zillion zillion ways people can be creative.

Best birthday surprise? A phone call just minutes into my 18th birthday from a young man I didn't know, wishing me a happy birthday because a mutual friend had told him I was cool. We ended up becoming very close friends. (Peachy, if you see this, drop me an e-mail. I seem to have misplaced you again.)

Words of advice? (1) Get plenty of sleep. (2) Embrace your fears. (3) Don't take yourself too seriously.

Your proudest (tangible) accomplishment? The music that I have written.

And if you win the Miss America pageant, what are your goals? World peace, Bert, world peace.

Your proudest (intangible) accomplishment? I raised two kids who have turned out to be really wonderful adults. My daughter helps new babies into the world, and my son puts out forest fires.
