After
performing in a couple of dance theater pieces (Susan
Marshall’s Spectators at an Event and
David
Rousseve’s Love Songs), I got an
opportunity to dance tango in Rick Linklater’s
experimental film Waking
Life. The acting bug bit, and though I resisted
it for as long as I could, I finally attended my very
first acting class on September 10, 2001. The date,
as it turns out, was significant.
The
very next day, terror struck as the World Trade Center
and the Pentagon were hit by hijacked planes. The
questions started coming hard and fast -- is this
acting class frivolous, meaningless, a waste of time?
Or is it important? Really important? 9/11
made it very clear to me that life was uncertain and
came without guarantees. If I was going to live the
artistic life I’d always claimed I wanted, I
needed to take responsibility for making it happen.
It was important. Really important.
Since
then, I have been active in the film and theater communities
in Austin: writing soundtracks and plays; acting both
in film and on stage; designing sound, costumes, and
puppets; playing the bassoon in a baroque/renaissance
ensemble; teaching music classes; and generally saying
yes to any new project that offers artistic growth.
I
am
represented by Acclaim
Talent, so give them a shout if you need a good
'mature' actress for your film, video, or TV show.
Or contact
me directly if I can help you with music, sound
design, or anything theatrical.
